To some it just a myth and to some it is a workable theory. It is not uncommon to hear one say "umekaliwa chapo na bibi" a phrase used on husbands perceptible of being controlled by their wives.
The traditional myth of a wife sitting bare naked on a hot chapati then serving it to the husband in s measure that is subjected to weaken him and become more submissive to the wife hence gaining more control of him,literally turning the husband to a puppet.
No one has ever admitted to have successfully done this extremely dangerous ritual though other methods such as husband battery has been reported.
However in Kitui,one dissatisfied woman has taken the words into action,Anne Wanjiku a mother of two who has been married for six years,took her frustrations on the husband who apparently has been mistreating her by heeding to the teachings and hear say of the Chapati myth.
Tuesday evening,she prepared the meal which in this case was chapati and as instructed,sat on one straight from the frying pan,the temperature and the hot chapati played havoc on her. She ended up with severe burns and was heard screaming. Fortunately,the neighbours heeded to the call and was rushed to the district hospital where she was treated and still undergoing.
Due to the nature of the affected zone,healing of the buttocks takes time and she clearly won't be able to sit up straight nor "sit on the husband" as she might have anticipated.
